I never know how to season anything.
Soooo….I experiment.
This time, the experimenting with spices got way out of hand.
😦
What to use:
2 cups dried Great northern beans
4 cups water
1/2 teaspoon salt
25 turns of the fresh pepper grinder (looked like about a tablespoon?)
splash of lime juice
2 bay leaves
2 teaspoons dried parsley flakes
2 teaspoons dried thyme flakes
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon dried diced jalapeno pepper flakes
1 large onion, chopped
How to cook it:
1. Place all ingredients into crock pot and give it a stir.
2. Cover and cook 8 hours on LOW or until beans are soft. (Easy to overcook beans!.)
End Result:
No.
Pick a spice, don’t use them all. These would have been perfectly fine if I had chosen maybe ONE of the spices, but not all.
Don’t ever eat these.
My husband is so wonderful, he ate three servings. I looked at his face and said, “Let’s throw these out.”
What spices would you suggest for great northern beans or navy beans? Help me, please.
hmmm….. I think I would have left out the garlic and thyme. Both can be powerful. The other ingredients….would probably work great for a new kick to beans….If I used pinto beans then maybe garlic with the other ingredients (minus the thyme). when I use spices I find a little bit goes a long way especially using dried herbs or spices. In reading your recipes I’ve decided you must have inherited something from your grand mother; the one with the red hair , the one that liked to eat!!! She was always throwing things together and putting a twist on an old recipe.
If you are looking for a little heat I would cook the beans with a whole jalapeno.
I like Cumin, onions and just a touch of garlic with your bacon or hock..tum
