While we were in the hotel, I didn’t always look up recipes on-line. Sometimes, I walked through the store and thought, “This might work in the crock pot.” This is one of those recipes that did not.
What I used:
2 salmon fillets
1 packet Uncle Ben’s whole grain rice, ready-made
2 packages of frozen veggies
How I made it:
I mixed the rice and veggies together and placed the fish gingerly on top. So proud of myself, I thought it looked beautiful and colorful and would most certainly taste good.
End Result:
Dry and fishy-tasting.
What did I do wrong? And how could I make fish in the crock pot that tastes delicious?
Another recipe I tried that did work out!

jennifer, fish cooks in ten minutes per inch thick fillet…i learned my first fishy lesson from a supposed-to-be-superb crock chowder (i introduced the clams too soon, and they turned to hard rubber nuggets).
thereafter, fish and i tread gingerly on recipes; i now include the marine elements at the last minute, for crock-cooking, a fillet cooks atop rice/veg base just as as steamed fish–20 min max. till tender. i once had a bamboo mat which acts as oriental steamer, to large for this crockpot.
hope you are enjoying your late spring, and yard?
Nadine—so I learned my lesson. Fish coks FAST.
We moved in too late to plant the garden this year, but we have a couple plants—tomato, sqaush, cucumber and green pepper that mama brought up when she came to visit this past week. So, at least I’ll have a little to cook with! 🙂
