You betcha!
Think about it…what’s the the tricky part about pizza in a crock pot? The dough. So, what if you replaced the crust with pasta instead. It’s just another type of starch, really. And believe you me. It is JUST as good as pizza! This was EXCELLENT! And EASY!
Cooks 4 to 6 hours on LOW, depending on crock pot. Serves 6. For a lower fat version, use low-fat mozzarella. For a vegetarian meal, skip the pepperoni.
What you’ll need:
4 cups corkscrew whole wheat pasta, cooked al dente and drained
AND
whatever you like on your pizza!
We like it all so we used:
1 packet of pepperoni
4 tomatoes
1 onion
1 green pepper
small can of black olives
2 garlic cloves
1 tsp salt
1 tsp oregano
1/2 tsp dried rosemary
1 cup mozzarella cheese
How to Cook it:
1. Chop tomatoes, onion, pepper, and pepperoni.
2. Mince garlic.
3. Grate cheese.
4. Combine, mix and cover.
5. Cook on LOW 4 t o 6 hours, depending on crock pot. (So, check it. When it’s melty and cheesy, it’s ready!)
Garnish however you normally garnish your pizza. Serve with any side. It’s pasta. It goes with everything!
End Result:
Superb! Just like pizza. We couldn’t believe how similar it tasted. Hope to try the Hawaiian version next time with pineapple and ham to see if that works! It’s thrilling to try making something, only to discover it’s even better than you’d hoped!
